I dress myself, not to impress, but for comfort and for style.Interview with Camer fashion blogger- idylle Epangué Warke

It's been really great connecting with Idylle Epangué Warke. I visited her blog and really loved the photography and positive vibe! It is amazing and somehow unbelievable to know that a sister from #237 could do such a wonderful job.

Here, Idylle gives tips on developing and managing a fashion blog. She gives some insight as to how long it takes to get followers. She shares her personal style, beauty tips, fashion obsessions and travel adventures. She dreams of a life where she will be able to travel around the world with friends and enjoy the little things in life.

Fashion blogging sounds like a pretty sweet gig, from what I gathered from her. How fun would it be to dressed up in exotic brands while your hubby or boyfriend snaps pictures of your outfit combinations. While fashion blogging is all of those things in the eyes of many, it is also a profession for a select few.

Two weeks ago, I wrote a passage on elegance and why it is important for women, no matter what size, race, believes and age to always try to look exquisitely fabulous, pretty, elegant and stylish. Kudos to all the Cameroonian girls home and abroad for being fashionable, smart and sexy... To all the actresses, artist and makeup artist.

1. Hi idylle, could you start by telling us a bit about yourself?

I’m Lydie, a 28 years old fashion lover and writer originally from Cameroon but moved in the UK a couple of years ago. I am a wife. I have 3 siblings and am the oldest of 4 kids. I got married in 2013 to my loving husband Mathew Warke. My mother is Bakweri and my dad is of Bakossi (nkongsamba). I love traveling and living life to fullest, like there is no tomorrow, hahahaha! I am kidding ok....uh! I am a very calm, funny and peaceful person. I try to find happiness in the small things of life. I love food, books, TV and more food! Love walking barefooted by the beach with a glass of freshly orange juice and looking at the sunset, hmm my favorite.I have a full time job as Digital Marketer and I blog passionately about lifestyle and fashion in my free time. Oh, and dancing

Q2. Can you tell us about your blog, and what inspired you to start it?

I started my blog because I love writing and I had so many ideas in my mind that needed an outlet at the time. My blog is more like a place for random thoughts and ideas. Fashion was an added bonus.

Q3?.. How would you describe your own personal style?

My personal style is colourful, I have a thing for colours and I love wearing colourful dresses...whew! It makes me feel like I am flying. I can say my style is a unique mixture of multicoloured and romantic trends and it Is tailored to suit my body type. I always make sure to add my personal flair on a trend.

Q4?...What do you think will be the big hit fashion wise for next season?

I think bold patterns and prints. The African print is already making waves with the Western culture. It will get bigger. And I am definitely going to start wearing them..

Q5...Where do you tend to buy your clothes, and why?

On the high street and online. Because I get the best bargains online and source out exclusive items in vintage or charity shops. Sometimes I go for window shopping and have a look at the trends according to the famous designers. I trend to buy mostly during sales but I do thrift shopping as well. I have be very satisfied with the benefits of online shopping.

Q6?... What do you spurge on? (Spend alot of money on)

I don’t usually splurge but I would say my most expensive items are shoes! Hahaha a girl can never have enough shoes. I should splurge on a bag. As they are also great investment pieces when well-kept. That’s my next item hunt 😉

Q7....Do shops and advertisers send you samples of their goods to feature?

Yes. Sometimes I get approached by independent shops and sellers to promote a product or service. I either get paid in money or with products which I give honest reviews on and advertise.

8. Do you have any fashion rules when putting an outfit together?
Do NOT blend in!

9. Where do you find the inspiration for your blog posts?

From anything and everything really. I get ideas from problems that I face when shopping, dressing up, going out etc. I also get ideas from trends, other blogs and stories and the street style that I see during the day. There are so many Cameroonian fashionistas out there that I take my hat off for their styles. It's unbelievable with what I see on Facebook book and also wanna applause you for your credit giving to us ladies... U are such a wonderful man... Thanks though.... You welcome

Q10?. Is there a person that is a fashion inspiration to you?

Yes, loads! I love Solange Knowles, Claire Sulmers, Blake Lively, Lupita Nyong'o and Kerry Washington. To me a fashion inspiration does not mean I dress like them but it means I look up to their style sense and I could easily see myself wearing items from their wardrobe..... What about your mom? Your dad also has a huge taste of fashion... Yeah...hahaha! U are funny

Q11?. What's your next fashion must have?

A statement bag. That is one wardrobe essential I need to invest in. Oh and maybe a belt. I have never owned a belt in my life. Except the ones that come with the trousers or items they are sold with. And I usually loose them…oh dear.

Q12?.. You have a lot of followers to your blog how did you do this? Was there ever a time when you had say only one follower? How did you get more?

Yes, for many months when I started blogging I had mostly my friends and family as followers. I still haven’t got as many followers across all social media platforms as I would like to have to have but I have maintained a ‘steady’ following by being consistent with my posts. Blogging is no easy task and is takes a lot of dedication.

Q13?. Once you've got the followers how do you keep them?

I've maintained a steady
following by staying consistent and relevant - kinda. Lol. You need to interact with people through Facebook and twitter or Instagram, make comments on others and leave your blog link.

Q14?... What's the biggest tip you have for any one wanting to start a fashion blog or website?

Put your heart in it and don't do it because it's trending. If you're not in it for the passion you will slow down real along the way and lose interest real quick because it is tough!

Q15?. Who does your amazing photography?

My husband. He actually knew nothing about photography but he's come a long way. He has never taken a photography classes and I am also trying my best to position myself in different angles and light. Thanks for calling his work amazing!

Q16?. What's the biggest challenge about fashion blogging?

Keeping it updated, staying relevant and finding the time to put your creative ideas to life. Blogging takes alot of effort, personal time and sacrifices to be real fashion blogger.

Q17?... What do you love most about blogging?

Being my own boss. It's my escape. I love that I am in control of when I post, what I do and how I do it 😜. They are also many benefits when it comes to blogging. I have learned to love myself and be more confident.

Q18.?.. How many times a week do u post?

I aim to post at least once a day. But on a slow week I aim for 2-3 times. I try to be consistent. Also I believe quality matters most than quantity.

Q19?..Where do you see your blog in the next five years?

An independent and more professional fashion, lifestyle and health blog.

Q20?... Did you have any professional help or did you created it yourself?

All by myself. It's my baby 😘 I have learned a lot about website coding with time.
Is it possible to make money from a fashion blog?
Definitely. It's a full time job for some people. You get paid to advertise brands and advertising slots on my blog like a lot of other blogs can be purchased.

Q21?... What would you say is the biggest challenge about fashion blogging?

Time management. It's toughest when you have another full time job. And I have to take time out of my evenings, weekends and early hours of the morning to compose blog posts. Also, I expect and receive negative feedback. But I take it constructively and it's help me to love myself and be confident.
