►Promotion for a war hero
The President of the Republic His Excellency Paul BIYA signed two orders on Tuesday September 22, 2015 promoting the late Senior Inspector of Police Ladé Elie to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police. It should be recalled that the bravery and courage of this most patriotic police officer saved many lives which would have otherwise been lost in Mora on Sunday September 20, 2015 when he pinpointed the two suicide bombers who were dispatched by Boko Haram to kill people in the Mora market. He stopped them at the police check point and paid for his bravery with his live. The magnanimous act of the Head of State has come as balm to heal the wounds of the family over the loss of their dear one.

►HIV/AIDS: Indian Activist Meets Public Health Minister
Somen Debnath, a 32-year-old from India is in Cameroon with his bicycle to intensify the campaign against HIV/AIDS and the need to show solidarity towards people living with the virus. While on an “Around the World Bicycle Tour” for HIV/AIDS, Somen Debnath who arrived Cameroon from Equatorial Guinea was on September 23, 2015 received in an audience by the Minister for Public Health, André Mama Fouda. Setting out on May 27, 2004, from Basanti village in India, the HIV crusader will travel to the Central Africa Republic on Monday, September 28, 2015. Somen Debnath says his goal is to cover 191 countries by 2020. Cameroon is his 106th country covered so far.
►Farm inputs offered to 112 SW farming groups
The South West Development Authority (SOWEDA) on Tuesday, September 23, 2015, handed over farm inputs to 112 selected farming groups in the Region. Worth over FCFA 30 million, the donation comprised of 865 bags of fertilizers, 2,170 liters of herbicides, 530 liters of insecticides, 600 kg of maize seeds, and some sail baits and fungicides. Addressing the beneficiaries, the General Manager of SOWEDA, Dr. Eneme Andrew Ngome, hailed the farmers for ensuring food self-sufficiency in the Region, a phenomenon which, through the inputs will significantly increase soil fertility and consequently productivity.

►American NGO agrees to help patients with rare diseases
The Minister for Public Health and the Representative of the American based Non Governmental Organisation, Messi Donavan Palmer have signed an agreement on the treatment of rare infections in Cameroon. Accordingly, the NGO undertakes to provide free treatment for people suffering from rare infections such as cleft lift, virginal fistula, amongst others. The agreement also cites that the Ministry of Public health will pay for the transfer of patients from their various regions to the treatment centers.
►Maritime Security: Experts rethink Global Maritime Distress and Safety System.
A three-day seminar on ways of developing strategies for the National Component for the Global Maritime Distress and Safety Systems presided at by the Minister for Post and Telecommunications Jean Pierre Biyiti Bi Essam has ended in Yaoundé on September 23, 2015. The initiative comes against the backdrop of rising maritime security threats in the Gulf of Guinea coupled with the illegal migration through corridors in the North of the continent. The Global Maritime Distress System is a system to bring assistance to those who are in difficulty at sea.

►Fai Collins gets first Indomitable Lions call-up
Dinamo Bucuresti defender, Fai Collins Ngoran has earned his first Indomitable Lions call-up for the game against the Super Eagles of Nigeria on October 11. The 23-year-old, who has been a regular player with the Romanian club since 2013, is part of a 25-man squad named by Volker Finke. Fai is a versatile player is known for his power, combative style and free kick ability.

►Pope Francis to Address UN
Pope Francis will be addressing world leaders today at the United Nations in New York. He will be expected to call for international action and cooperation to combat climate change and poverty and to help refugees fleeing conflict. The General Assembly speech begins a hectic schedule for the 78-year-old pontiff on the fourth day of his visit to the United States.

►Volkswagen set to announce new boss
The board of scandal-hit Volkswagen is currently meeting today Friday to shake up its management. On the agenda will be choosing a replacement for chief executive Martin Winterkorn, who resigned on Wednesday. Reports have said that the front-runner for the top job is Porsche chief executive Matthias Mueller. VW is also expected to dismiss executives tainted by the scandal over the rigging of emissions tests by software in its diesel cars in the US.
►Hajj stampede: Saudis face growing criticism over deaths
Iran has led growing criticism of Saudi Arabia after at least 717 people died and 863 were injured in a stampede near the holy city of Mecca on Thursday. Iran's Supreme National Security Council accused the Saudis of "incompetence" and urged them to "take responsibility" for the deaths. Nigeria has dismissed remarks by the Saudi health minister blaming pilgrims for "not following instructions". King Salman has ordered a safety review for the Hajj pilgrimage.
